About

Hi! I’m Erica Beaton!

The Good Enough Teacher

I encourage teachers to battle perfectionism and focus on what really matters in education.

A few things about me:

▫️I spent fifteen years as a secondary ELA and history teacher. I’m a certified K-12 reading specialist, National Writing Project fellow, Book Love classroom library grant finalist, education consultant, content creator, and—phew!— recovering perfectionist.

▫️The blue-green color in my branding matches the wall color of my classroom (as shown in the photo). The paint is called “Atmosphere,” and I feel like it casts an aura of calm creativity. That is what I hope to inspire in educational go-getters.

▫️Like a lot of teachers, I was a “good kid” and a “good student” growing up. Those labels eventually got twisted into an impossible game of endlessly trying to level-up. I was in my twenties, exhausted, and having anxiety attacks before I realized that perfect is the enemy of good.

▫️I have a tattoo of the word “grace” on my forearm to remind me of all the goodness that I have received and can pass on to others. Thus, I want to use this platform to help you and other educators push aside that never-ending quest for gold stars ✨ and proudly see your work as “good enough.”
